The University of Portland SWE section is hosting a Career Panel presentation for their students. This is a very active section; the first meeting had about 70 participants! The program here assigns a mentor to each freshman engineering student so that they have a supporter as they initially experience college and an engineering program. You now have an opportunity to also be a mentor of sorts by participating on this Career Panel.
We’re looking for 4-5 volunteers who are able to come to the university on Tuesday Oct 8 for a meeting that’s scheduled from 5:45 – 7 pm. It would be very nice to have some diversity in age, discipline, type of work, if possible—but we really just need individuals who are willing to share their experiences with students who are looking for a better understanding of what it means to work as an engineer. The format for the panel typically works with a brief introduction (2-3 minutes) from each participant and then questions from the students. We have usually requested that they prepare a few in advance and then we take some from the general audience.
If you’re able to come and share your story, please contact Cathy Myers University of Portland
